Update: The Godiva Chocolate is going to…Joyce! Congrats!!

Ready for another great holiday recipe?  This time, author Janet Breakfield is here to offer up a dish for readers–and one lucky commenter will win

So…are you in the mood for something sweet? (Heck, when am I not in the mood for that?) On to Janet’s post!!

Here’s a little something sweet for your holiday season!

A southern tradition around this time of year is “White Pecan Fudge”

Recipe:

2 cups sugar

1/2 cup sour cream

1/3 cup light corn syrup

1/4 tsp. salt

2 tsp. vanilla or rum extract

1/4 cup candied cherries

1 cup coarsely chopped pecans

Combine sugar, sour cream, corn syrup, butter and salt in saucepan; bring to boil over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves. Boil, without stirring, to 236 degrees on candy thermometer, or until a little mixture dropped in cold water forms a ball. Remove from heat and let stand about 15 minutes; don not stir. Add flavoring and beat until mixture starts to lose its gloss, 8 or 9 minutes. Quickly stir in cherries and pecans; then pour into greased 8 x 8 inch utility dish. Cool; cut into squares. Makes about 1 1/2 pounds of candy.

Enjoy!

About the story:

Wildlife photographer Olyvia Rayne has just learned of her Father’s death and must return to Pier Part, Louisiana to take care of his affairs. She hasn’t seen her father in over eleven years, having left the bayou with her Mother to live in Baton Rouge when she was fifteen. Now at twenty six, she hasn’t seen her high school friend Gunner Robichaux since she left. And he’s certainly changed. He’s now a tall, hot, mouth watering morsel. And he’s interested in her. Really interested to the point of obsession. But Oly is afraid to trust anyone. Especially a man she’s so attracted to. But Gunner has loved her all his life and will do anything to make her his.

I confess that I don’t like pecans and I don’t like rum. I do LOVE the chocolate covered pretzels that my mother-in-law always made at Christmas. I also like those pumpkin cream cheese rolls that always seem to appear this time of year. AND, I NEVER turn down a Christmas cookie!

I have to admit that I have a weakness for divinity – I just love it and can’t ever seem to get enough. I have tried several times to make it but just can’t seem to master it – I do have plans to try making it again though. Thanks for the recipe for the White Pecan Fudge – it sounds delish!

I love fudge, but cannot make it to save my life. Don’t know why. It just never turns out. So, I stick to baking pies, cakes & cookies. My favorite decadent treat? Creme brulee. Mmmm…just thinking of it makes my mouth water. Now I’m off to go find a snack! 🙂

Janet,I make fudge and bannana bread every year, you would think I would get sick of it and after 30 years I occasionly yearn to make something new,but whenever I ask my friends what they would like for Christmas, even from my daughter, the answer always is oh some of your fudge or bannana bread so I guess thats what Ill make for Christmas till Im too old to stir the batter lol also I was given a free copy of your 3rd book in the Bayou series and set it aside to wait to get the first 2 first, then read this one,but Cynthia Eden is my favorite author and anybody that she recommends I buy right away (Rebecca Zanetti and of course Shelly Laurentsen are 2 examples) so now I am ordering your other 2 books in the series tomorrow instead of waiting because if Cynthia recommended you, then you are worth reading!!!

It’s a toss up between peanut butter fudge and white chocolate buckeyes. I used to only make milk chocolate buckeyes. One year I had some left over white chocolate and thought I’d try it with the peanut butter mix. So yummy. So now I make both every year, white and milk chocolate buckeyes.
Thanks for the white chocolate pecan fudge, it sounds delicious.
