October!! Katie Reus! Fun! Awesome Prize! Back to Blog

Okay, I know…that is a crazy subject line, right? But it’s October and I LOVE October. ย There’s a chill in the air, spooky stories are spilling from everyone’s lips, and Halloween fun is just waiting to be had! Since I am such a Halloween fan, expect lots of paranormal posts this month. Guest authors, prizes, Halloween recipes, scary movie recaps. ย Party time. ๐Ÿ™‚

And to get the Halloween fun going, my guest today is the very talented Katie Reus. I love Katie’s work, and I adore Katie–she’s a sweetheart and soon to be my ghost hunting partner-in-crime (ahem, more about that later). For now…here’s Katie!

Thank you so much to the wonderful Cynthia Eden for having me here today! As a fellow paranormal author and ghost hunting buddy, itโ€™s always fun to blog at her place. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I fell in love with romance through romantic suspense so itโ€™s only natural that once I figured out writing was for me, that would be the genre I started out writing. But the more I wrote, the more I read and a few years ago I discovered there was more to romance than suspense (seriously, I had no idea!). Once I discovered paranormal romance, this amazing world opened up to me. But I never in a million years (thatโ€™s what I get for using the word never) thought I would write paranormal. I mean, yeah, I loved reading it, but actually writing it? Luckily, the more I fought it, the more I craved writing about paranormal creatures. It was the world building that eventually sucked me in. I love the research part of romantic suspense (and still have to research for paranormal romance) but actually getting to create my own world with my own rules? I finally caved and Iโ€™m so glad I did. If I hadnโ€™t, I wouldnโ€™t have written DESTINED MATE, my first release from Harlequin Nocturne Cravings (the second comes out next year). So whatโ€™s it about?

Almost a century ago, Angela Lavigne and Alpha werewolf Knox had a shared passion neither could control. Then Angela was turned into a vampire and disappeared.

The last thing Knox expects is for Angela to show up on his doorstep on a rescue mission, as sexy and irresistible as ever. And he can sense how much she still wants him, too. Sheโ€™s gone against both their speciesโ€™ rules and trespassed on his land. By law he can keep her as long as he wantsโ€”and Knox doesnโ€™t intend to let her go ever again.

As their desire explodes once again, Knox is more sure than ever that heโ€™s must claim her forever. But as vampire and werewolf, they are natural born enemies. Can she truly be his destined mate?

Warning: Expect a red-hot shower scene, a smartass heroine who isnโ€™t afraid to use her teeth and an alpha wolf whoโ€™s willing to fight anyone and anything to keep his vampire lover by his side.

Whatโ€™s your favorite thing about paranormal romance? One commenter will win a copy of Destined Mate. (Contest open to all readers, 18 years or older, who are legally allowed to participate in such a contest as allowed by their local laws. By participating in the contest, participants agree to be bound by the decision of the contest sponsor, Katie Reus.)

A little about me: Iโ€™ve been reading romance since I discovered my momโ€™s hidden stash at a young age and the addiction stayed with me into adulthood. I write paranormal romance and sexy romantic suspense. My publishing houses include Carina Press, Harlequin Nocturne, and in early 2012 the first book in my paranormal series will release from NAL/Signet Eclipse. Great cover. Very sexy! Perfect month for it, too. I’ll have to check out your monster mash-up!

  2. CrystalGB says:

Love the cover to your book. My favorite thing about paranormal romance is the amazing worlds and characters that authors create.

  3. Diane Sadler says:

It’s the amount of imagination it takes for authors to come up with stories that can be acceptable(even though deep down we know there’s no such things alive). And the amazing ways you continue the stories and keep them alive.

  4. Anne says:

I guess it’s the escapism into another world (cause I’m not a believer in things that go bump in the night). The alpha heroes don’t hurt either!

    • Katie Reus says:

Not even a little bit of bump? ๐Ÿ˜‰ I love alpha heroes too! I think it’s almost a rule that a hot shifter or vampire hero has to be alpha!

  5. Rashda/Mina says:

    Hi Katie! Hi Cynthia!

Love this post ๐Ÿ™‚ Good luck Katie with your debut book! Can’t wait to read it since I love paranormal stories, werewolves and hot shower scenes =D

My favorite PR author –and this is true, pinky swear!–Cynthia Eden. I love her Midnight series. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Katie Reus says:

Rashda! Thanks for stopping by. You’ve got a pretty hot story coming out yourself soon that I can’t wait to read ๐Ÿ™‚ (Agreed, I think it goes w/out saying that Cynthia’s Midnight series is freaking awesome)

  6. Melissa says:

LOL, so I have to tell you, due to Cynthia, I’ve been on a glom of your work ~ this past week I’ve read Deadly Obsession, Dangerous Obsession, Dngerous Secrets, and just bought Destined Mate ~ Cynthia is always pimping you, so I had a few of your books, and once I started reading I was hooked!
Anyway, favorite thing about paranormals? That you just never KNOW ~ they totally break the parameters. If there is one thing I love above all elese about them, it’s got to be the mate bond that so many tend to have ~ I love the idea of being destined for someone on a cellular level.
    Congrats on Destined Mate!!

    • Katie Reus says:

Wow, you totally made my week!! I really hope you like my paranormal stuff too. Thank you so much for stopping by ๐Ÿ™‚ Yes, I’m a huuuggge fan of mating bonds (as you’ll find out, lol)

    • Melissa says:

I’ve got to finish all the suspsense, then I’m on to the paranormal, lol. You’ve totally hooked me on the suspense front ~ I really had NO idea you had so many books out, I was thrilled when I saw them all!! Smooches to Cynthia for introducing me to your writing!

  7. Love Katie and her work! DESTINED MATE sounds great.

  8. Cynthia Eden says:

Thanks so much for guest blogging with me, Katie! And congrats on your new release!

  9. Kathy Miller says:

Katie did a great guest blog. And what I love about paranormal romances, is that the impossible can be possible. That the only limits that exist in a paranormal romance are the limits of a writers imagination.

  10. Barb P says:

Hi Katie and Cynthia! I love PNR! I love the unexpected and love thinking that there is more out there than the usual. The stories take me away for just a little while. Besides, the thought of hot vamps, shifters etc really make my day. Congrats on the new release and I would love to win a copy. bpatrick64113@sbcglobal.net

  11. Rachel says:

I love paranormal romance. I love the way the writers write it in a way where it seems real & it can happen to you. You get to feel like your the one getting bit. Who would’nt love that. I love the cover of your book & can’t wait to read it. —Rachel

  12. Viki says:

My favorite thing about paranormal romance is the escapism. I love that the world is a bit different and anything goes. It also doesn’t hurt that generally the heroes are extremely HOT! The tortured hero who finds his mate always gets me. The guys back story is what really gets me every time.
I also love the cover of your book. I will be looking you up :).

  13. Colleen says:

My fav thing about paranormal is the magic and mystique of it… loving the sound of your book! Congrats on its release!

  14. Lora Patten says:

I have always been huge into Nosferatu and Lycanthropes (Vampires and Werewolves) from the very first moment I was aware of their “existence”. I read Bram Stoker’s Dracula at the tender age of 8 and while I may not have understood the entire premise of the book, I knew that this was something that would hold me enthralled for a lifetime. I was probably the only one of my friends who thrived on watching “An American Werewolf In London” as many times as possible upon its 1981 release and not finding it even remotely terrifying, just heartbreaking that the poor werewolves were so misunderstood (LOL!). I love the “other worldliness” of paranormal romances, how the characters are misunderstood at the outset and they have to overcome insurmountable odds to reach some level of acceptance and then have to do it all over again any time there is some type of catastrophe that seems to point directly to them as the catalyst. However, while those are enough to keep me coming back, the hard sell to me is the fierce loyalty and commitment these characters feel for each other in a world where promiscuity and infidelity runs rampant.

  15. Barbara says:

Hey Cynthia and Katie! What do I love about paranormal romance…SEXY alpha men, DUH! Vampire, werewolf, demon, whatever…there has to ALWAYS be at least one (preferably more) super sexy alfa melt-my-toes bad ass (oops can I say that?) man. Yup…sigh…that’s what I like. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  16. Maria D. says:

I like the alpha men and the kick butt heroines in paranormal romance. I love the world building that usually takes place and all of the action in the stories.

  17. Nikki B says:

Love the cover!!! I love paranormal romance because well it has a little of everything. I love books with vampires, shapeshifters, werewolves, witches etc. because it lets me escape into a world were anything can happen with just enough romance to peek that particular need as well. Its nice to be transported out of your normal everyday life into something exciting.
P.S. Love both of your books, HUGE FAN!!!

  18. Lorraine R says:

My favorite thing about paranormal romance is they are not all the same. There are som many different story plots, adventures and dramas that go into theses story. Many are not your typical vampire or warewolf stories. They have more imagination and depth. No two are alike, and I love that. I love when an author takes me on an adventure I never saw comming. I love that not all vampires are the same. As with your story, a vampire and warewolf can fall in love. And they work!! Some of the places I get to go when I read I want to stay in and live with some of the most fascinating charaters these authors bring to life for us. It a talent, I believe, that is harder to focus on then regular romance. Do not get me wrong I LOVE regular romance books, I LOVE all romance books Historical, Urban, Contemporary, erotic, you name it I will read it. But I believe its harder when you write about a mythical romance than one that can actually be realized. That depth of imagination is what I love the most.

  19. Nikki B says:

Also My favorite thing about Paranormal Romance stories is the strong Alpha and even strong Betas as well as heroins and vice versa. They just pull you into there stories. The fact that they all are not the same is a bonus for me. The creativity of the authors is amazing to say the least! Cynthia Eden is at the top of my list for favorite authors, I own every book that I could get my hands on. Her work is magnificent!!

    • Katie Reus says:

You just couldn’t stay away from the blog, lol ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m actually working on a novella now w/ a beta heroine who is so strong in her own right and it’s been fun playing with her characterization.

  20. Na says:

I love that pretty much anything is possible. You can have a soul mate centuries in the making, have the ability to bring back a love one or be reunited with them in death. Love can truly live on and people can fall in love with non-humans.

    • Katie Reus says:

Yes, it’s awesome when love crosses cultural and even species boundaries in romance. What a person looks like doesn’t matter and that’s so much fun to explore ๐Ÿ™‚

  21. jennifer mathis says:

oh Destined Mate sounds great . My favorite thing about paranormal is anything can happen and anyone can be the good guys

    meandi09@yahoo.com

  22. Vanessa N. says:

Awesome cover! I love them because they let you escape to another world for a little while. You can get wrapped up in a world where anything can happen. Thanks for the chance.

  23. Stephenia says:

paranormal characters have that something extra that tickles the imagination – usually a super ability like a super strong, super fast runner, heals quickly. Many paranormal characters also have a long life span and that opens them to alot of vulnerabilities that an author can write about. What’s not to love about a strong, handsome, slightly vulnerable hero with stomach lickable abs?? LOL

  24. Valerie Long says:

Love the cover! Sounds like a great book too. =)
My favorite thing about paranormal romance…Well I love vampires and were-animals and other paranormal and supernatural beings so putting those characters into a romance setting is just perfect to me! =) Thanks for this generous giveaway opportunity too!!!

    • Katie Reus says:

Thanks! I (obviously) love paranormal creatures too and it’s so cool to see how different authors will give the same being, like a vampire, completely different weaknesses and gifts.

  25. Lindsey E says:

I love the fact that anything can happen in paranormal romance. There a special powers and supernatural creatures to sprinkle on top of all the true love forever story.

  26. savannah m says:

My favorite thing about paranormal romance is that they take the term bad boy to a whole new level! Also I love how the good guy is technically a bad guy, and yet I fall in love with them over and over again. Pretty sad I wish monsters were real, I’d like a werewolf or a shifter for myself ๐Ÿ™‚
Love the cover ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks for the contest!
